Med Salim put on an MVP-like performance as multi-titled Chiang Kai Shek College tarted its 2014 campaign on a high note, downing arch-rival Hope Christian High School, 82-75, to rule the recent Seaoil-Metro Manila Basketball League at the San Beda gym. n a game reminiscent to their Metro Manila Tiong Lian final two years ago, both teams fought almost on even terms, but this time it was the Blue Dragons who showed with a ig heart and prevailed – thanks largely to Salim.

The 6-foot-3 Salim highlighted his 24-point performance by knocking down two pressure-packed charities and a layup in the last 65 seconds to help Chiang Kai Shek College exact sweet revenge over Hope Christian. Salim also had 9 rebounds aside from making life miserable for Hope Christian ace slotman John Apaciple.

For winning the title, the Blue Dragons earned another honor to represent Metro Manila in the Seaoil National Basketball Championship where champion teams from different regions in the country will slug it out.

“It was nice na nag-work lahat ng pinaghirapan namin,” said  Goldwin Monteverde, who again thanked CKSC alumni for their all-out support to his program.

The title win was a fitting a follow up to their impressive win in the Milo National Twin Tournaments where it won the Passerelle division in runaway fashion.

Down 69-64, Hope Christian rallied to tie the count at 72-all, but it proved to be its last gallant stand as Salim calmly hit two free throws and Van Pilanga buried a huge triple in a vicious 9-0 run for a 81-72 lead. Also shining for Chiang Kai Shel College were Memet Ascano and JV Gallego who had 13 and points, respectively.

Jeanne Camelo made it a double celebration for Chiang Kai Shek College as she exploded for 54 points in the girls team’s 102-79 championship win over La Salle Antipolo. The cat-quick Camelo underscored their dominance by hitting eight triples. Aside from the MMBL crown, the CKSC girls' team also represented the city of Manila en route to winning the basketball competition of the NCR Meet from January 20 to 25, 2014. For the feat, they will represent the National Capital Region to Palarong Pambansa this April.

Also victorious in the NCR Meet was swimming protege Brandon Willis W. Sing who won the gold medal in 200m Backstroke, the silver medal in the 100m Backstroke, and the bronze medal in the 200m Individual Medley. Competing in track and field events, Emily Jean Obiena won the silver medal in 100m Hurdles and Jean Galicia copped the silver medal in Triple Jump.
