February, being the birth month of World Scouting founder Lord Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden Powell, was an active month for CKSC scouts.

Nine scouts, with their parents and scout leaders, joined the Kab Olimpikan’s celebration of the 90th anniversary of Manila Council, Boy Scouts of the Philippines last February 1 to 2 at Hardin ng Postema in Tanza, Cavite. The scouts joined their peers from various public and private schools in Manila. During their participation in the camp, they were taught skills in knot-tying, proper folding of the Philippine flag, and identifying traffic signs. They also did field sports like javelin throw, hammer throw, discus throw, and shot put. A campfire was held on the first night during which the scouts performed. Swimming in the venue’s pool completed their enjoyable weekend at the camp.

A national gathering of the Messengers of Peace Team Philippines was held at the national office of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines last February 10 to 14. More than 70 scouts and leaders from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao joined the workshop-seminar and, of course, Manila Council was represented well by two CKSC scouts, namely: Jefferson Chua and John Pierce Tubay. Discussants and lecturers were not only scout and community leaders from the Philippines, but also from other Asia-Pacific countries. The participants were clustered into groups with participants from different regions, and each group was tasked to make a project proposal for a project that will have lasting benefit to a grass root community. As part of the activity, the participants also had field visits in community centers around the Metropolis. On the last day of the event, the participants were briefed on their role as local coordinators of the Messengers of Peace projects in the Philippines, and action plans for years 2014 to 2015 were laid down. Truly, the event echoed the basic motto of Scouting which is to be prepared at all times, especially in the service of the nation and fellowmen.

Upon the invitation of the National Historical Institute and the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, 10 CKSC scouts also attended the program commemorating the 142nd anniversary of the martyrdom of Fathers Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora last February 17 at the GOMBURZA Execution Site, Rizal Park, Manila.
