The 2013 "Water Cube Cup" Overseas Chinese Youth Singing Competition - Philippine Elimination Round was held last June 23 at the auditorium of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Incorporated. Now on its second year, CKSC alumni and students swept the top five places in the competition.
Dean Kyle Ang (HS Batch 2012) won first prize. Vincent Su (HS Batch 2011) took second prize, while Sherine Ann Koa (HS Batch 2008) bagged the third prize. Rounding up the top five were Jimmy Chung (HS Batch 2008 and FBAS Batch 2012), fourth prize winner, and Mary Grace Khu (HS Batch 2011 and FBAS Accountancy student), fifth prize winner.
It was history repeating itself with the top five honors in the initial staging of the competition being dominated by CKSians. Last year's winners were Abigail Ann Garza (HS Batch 2009) - first prize, Raenelle Ean Ngo (HS Batch 2013) - second prize, Sherine Ann Koa - third prize, Jimmy Chung - fourth prize, and Dean Kyle Ang - fifth prize. For topping last year's Philippine eliminations, Abigail and Raenelle represented the Philippines in the World Competition at Beijing, China. Eventually, Abigail Ann Garza won first prize while Raenelle won third prize in the tough Beijing stint.
Dean Kyle Ang and Jimmy Chung will represent the country in this year's world contest in China. Congratulations and the best of luck to them!
