CKSC Alumnus Rance Derrick Neri Pavon Secures Second Place in NAST’s “Talent Search for Young Scientists

Rance Derrick Neri Pavon, a graduate of the High School Class of 2013, was awarded Second Place in the 2026 Talent Search for Young Scientists (TSYS) by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST). The prestigious award ceremony was held on July 9, 2026, at the Manila Hotel. As the country’s highest and most authoritative scientific honor and advisory body, this recognition from NAST represents the pinnacle of achievement in the Philippine scientific community.
The TSYS aims to recognize outstanding young scholars under the age of 35 who hold at least a Master’s degree and have published papers in reputable, peer-reviewed, ISI/Scopus-indexed scientific journals. The selection process is highly rigorous; shortlisted candidates must undergo initial screening and participate in a final round of public presentations and panel defenses, which took place on April 22, 2026, at the Admiral Hotel in Manila. The top winners are awarded plaques and cash incentives.
During his time at CKS College, Rance demonstrated exceptional academic aptitude. After graduation, he continued to delve deeply into the field of microbiology, previously earning the distinction of being a topnotcher in the Philippine Microbiology Certification Exam, which laid a solid foundation for his scientific research career.
Rance secured Second Place for his paper on the development of a Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP). This research successfully developed a rapid, low-cost molecular testing method capable of visually and accurately detecting the presence of Salmonella in meat products. This breakthrough provides a highly cost-effective diagnostic alternative for resource-limited settings, ensuring timely food safety and building a robust line of defense for public health protection.
Chiang Kai Shek College is immensely proud of Rance Pavon’s brilliant achievements. His success is not only a milestone in his personal academic career but also the ultimate embodiment of the diligence and pursuit of scientific excellence characteristic of CKSian students. The school hopes that Mr. Pavon will continue to strive for greater success in his future scientific endeavors, making even greater contributions to scientific development and human health in the Philippines and beyond.
    Congratulations, Rance!
