High School Students Shine in Various Math, Science, and General Information Contests


On November 14, the team consisting of students Kevin Panuelos, Catherine Tan, Kennard Sychingping, Aldric Reyes, Charmaine Chua, and Edgardo Mendoza Jr. won third runner-up in the Global Dimension ’09 organized by Southville Foreign University. This is a general information contest and out of a total of 342 participants, Kennard Sychingping got the highest individual score. For this feat Kennard can avail of 70% scholarship grant in the said university should he plan to enroll in the said university next school year. There were 57 participating schools in the contest.

On November 19, Raenelle Ngo of I-2 won 2nd place while Henry Jefferson Morco of II-2, Rhys Pavon of III-1 and Aldric Cristoval Reyes of IV-5, won 1st place respectively in the Regional Science Competition organized by DepEd-NCR in Valenzuela City. More than 30 private and public schools competed. Henry was ranked top 2 while Aldric was top 3 in the individual overall.

On November 20, students Geovin Dexter Uy, Kennard Sychingping, and Aldric Cristoval Reyes took second place in EMERGE Interschool High School Competition organized by DLSU-College of Engineering. 1st place was won by St. Jude Catholic School and 3rd place by Grace Christian College.

The next day, the high school department sent two teams in SLASH IT Quiz Bee Competition organized by the Computer Society of Ateneo de Manila University. The second team, composed of Paul Kenny Ko of IV-5 and Linconn Ong of IV-6 won first place. On the other hand, Andrew Sia of IV-5, who belonged to the first team was the individual top scorer.

On December 5, students Aldric Cristoval Reyes, Kennard Sychingping, and Justin Aaron Dy won third place in the PISIKAalaman Contest organized by the UP Physics Association. First and second places went to Philippine Science High School. Some 20 schools from both the public and private sectors joined this contest.

Finally on December 7, the high school department competed and won in two different contests and proved themselves as truly a powerhouse to reckon with. Students Aibeemae Cua, Rhys Pavon, and Catherine won third place in Caduceus Cup (a biology, chemistry, physics, and math contest) organized by UP College of Science. Students Aldric Cristoval Reyes, Kennard Sychingping, and Andrew Sia won second place in the 22nd MATHIRANG MATHIBAY organized by UPMMC. 40 schools competed in this prestigious contest and the Philippine Science High School won the first place.
