The CKSC Youth Choir was able to prove once again of their musical caliber in choral singing when they bagged the championship title in the 1st Chinese-Filipino Schools’ Student Chorale Competition organized by the Association of Chinese-Filipino Schools in the Philippines (ACFSP) and the Filipino-Chinese Columnists Association last December 12, 2009 at the St. Stephen’s High School Auditorium.

The much coveted choir competition was participated in by the Chinese-Filipino schools. Each choir was required to sing a mandatory Chinese song: “康 定 情 歌” (Kangding Love Song) and another song of their choice. Our choir chose “四 海 都 有 中 國 人” (There Are Chinese Everywhere). Eventually, our choir got the nod of the panel of judges. Second placer was St. Stephen’s High School, third placer went to St. Jude Catholic, fourth placer to Philippine Institute of Quezon City and fifth placer was Philippine Cultural College.

Our choir’s conductress was Mrs. Irma Tan-Su, piano accompaniment was Mr. Mark Carpio, and choreography was taught by Ms. Li Le and Mr. Frederick Robert Hayden. Voice coaching was done by Mr. Jonathan Velasco and the song arrangements was done by Mr. Cris Borela. The famous Chinese language columnist, Mr. Cheng Lay (李 榮 美), fully supported and donated P100,000 for the singing contest project.
Previously, the CKSC Youth Choir placed second runner-up in the prestigious National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) in the late 1990s. Their most recent international achievement was being awarded as The Most Promising Choir Award and two gold awards for Youth Choir of Equal Voices and Folklore Categories in the “2007 Voyage of Songs” International Chorale Festival” held in Pattaya, Thailand.
