Henry Jefferson C. Morco was National Champion in the 14th Philippine Mathematical Olympiad

Last January 28, 2012, the 14th Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO) Finals was held at the UP National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (NISMED) in Diliman, Quezon City. Around 3,500 students all over the Philippines participated in this prestigious contest.

After a series of competitions and eliminations , Henry Jefferson C. Chua, a IV-1 student of Chiang Kai Shek College, was one of the 20 national finalists. The Finals Contest Proper consists of two parts: a written portion (70% of the total score) which was held in the morning and an oral portion (30% of the total score) held in the afternoon.

At the end of the contest, Henry emerged as the champion. He received P15,000 while his coach, Mr. Frederick Buiza, got P5,000. Second place was Mikaela Angelina Uy of Saint Jude Catholic School, and Third Place went to Kenneth Co of the Philippine Science High School Main Campus. The three top winners and the 17 other national finalists will train this summer to determine who will represent in the 53rd IMO in July in Mar de Plata, Argentina.

The PMO, the country's oldest and most challenging math competition, is organized by the Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSO) with the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI).

The awarding ceremony of the PMO was held on the same day at the Bulwagang Tandang Sora, College of Social Works and Community Development at UP Diliman. Henry Morco is indeed the pride of CKSC!
