The Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute conferred the Youth Excellence in Science (YES) Awards to the students in recognition of their efforts for excellence in the fields of science and mathematics. The 2012 YES Awards are given to those students who were able to win gold, silver or bronze medals either in the individual or in team category in international science and mathematics competitions held in 2011.

The five (5) students are: (1) Henry Jefferson Morco of IV-1, Gold/individual at The 2011 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) in the Philippines and Bronze/individual at The International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) in Netherlands; (2) Raenelle Ean Ngo of III-1, Bronze/individual at The 2011 Indonesia International Mathematics Competition (IIMC) in Bali, Indonesia; (3) Andrew Brandon Ong of I-1, Bronze/team, at The 14th Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest (PMWC) in Hong Kong; (4) Terence Brian Tsai of 6-A, (a) Gold/individual at The 2011 International Mathematics Competition (IMC) in Singapore, (b) Silver/individual at The 2011 Wizards at Mathematics International Competition (WIZMIC) in Lucknow, India, (c) 2nd place/team, at The 2011 WIZMIC, and (d) Bronze, at The 8th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) in Naga City, Philippines; and (5) Clyde Wesley Ang of 6-G, Gold/individual at The 8th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) in Naga City, Philippines and silver, at The 14th Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest (PMWC), Hong Kong.
