Henry Jefferson Morco Won a Silver Medal in Asian-Pacific Math Olympiad

Henry Jefferson Morco, who is currently studying at Ateneo De Manila University as a college freshman taking up BS Applied Math, major in Mathematical Finance, took the silver medal in the Asian Pacific Math Olympiad (APMO) last March 13, 2012. The result was released only recently.
The silver medal is the first medal won by the Philippines in this very prestigious contest, which started in 1989, aims to discover math geniuses in Asia Pacific countries. Henry scored 23 points, which was only one point away from winning the gold medal. A gold medal requires a minimum of 24 points. A silver must have at least 18 points while a bronze, 12 points.
Students from Philippine Science High School-Diliman, St Jude Catholic School, etc. won bronze medal and honorable mention certificates.
Dr. Filma Brawner, director of Science Education Institute (SEI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said: “I congratulate all our students who represented us for winning silver and bronze medals respectively. This is what we emphasize when we support our students in these kinds of competitions.
