Grade School and High School Heads Attended Various Educational Undertakings In Thailand

Rosario Esperanza Brown, the high school assistant supervisor for English instruction was chosen by UNESCO as the lone Philippine delegate to the ASPnet School Twinning Project’s Seminar in South East Asia, held from January 29-31 at the Ambassador Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. This seminar aims (1) to celebrate the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development and (2) to promote and disseminate the idea and concept of School Twinning. The Thai National Commission for UNESCO shouldered all the expenses. Total number of participants was approximately 30 people coming from the Asian countries of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, South Korea, China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Lao PDR, Malaysia and Myanmar. Esperanza Brown gave a 15-minute report on the program of ASPnet activities in the Philippines.

Antonio J. Uy, the grade school supervisor for English instruction attended the Bangkok Educational Tour sponsored by the Phoenix Publishing House and the Ministry of Education of Thailand last September 6-9. Administrators from different schools all over the Philippines gathered at the Amari Watergate Hotel. They were provided with tours and seminars of schools offering the English program. Two of the popular schools visited were Prathom Suksa Thamasai School (Grade School) and the Saipanya Rangsit School (High School) which started their English program only last 2004. Unlike the Philippine school setting, students in public schools, which are heavily supported by the government, may choose to study either the English or Thai instructions. They cannot study in both instructions to avoid confusion in the learning process. The schools may have different programs but they share the common facilities like multi-media room, library, playground, etc.
