Swimmers, Scout Basketball Players Shine In Inter-School Tournaments

It's the turn of the swimming and scout basketball teams to shine for the pride and honor of Chiang Kai Shek College.

The CKSC swimming team, with Manila Downtown YMCA swimming pool as their training base on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, competed in the Invitational Inter-School Swim Meet organized by St. Stephen's High School last July 27, 2013. Two of the swimmers made waves on the pool, namely Brandon Willis Sing and Mishka Sy.

Brandon Willis, a fourth year high school student, won four individual gold medals in the 50m and 100m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke, aside from a bronze medal in the 50-M Butterfly, en route to being chosen Most Outstanding Swimmer in the 16 years old male category. 8-year old lass Mishka Sy bagged five silver medals in the following events: 50m and 100m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 50m Breaststroke, and 50m Backstroke. The young lady is showing great potentials, considering she is just in grade school level 2. Behind the success of the two achievers are their coach, Mr. Enrico Sy, and assistant coach, Aliza Koa.

Also rising to the occasion was the scout basketball team. The quartet of Eduard Erick Tan, Vinci Vic Yasul, Keane Audric Tiu, and Jonathan Co went far beyond expectations by finishing first runner-up in the NBA 3X Philippines 2013, Boys Under-18 division held from July 26 to 28 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall and the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Tent.

NBA 3X Philippines 2013 is a mass participation program aimed at promoting basketball amongst aspiring and competitive basketball players, including members of school and college varsity teams and Philippine national youth teams. It is considered the ultimate three-on-three basketball competition in the Philippines.

Gaining prominence in basketball circa using the monicker "CKSC Blazing Dragons", the scout team entered the competition merely to gain experience and for the chance to meet NBA players James Harden and Eric Gordon. But things went rosy as the Blazing Dragons roared loud and soared high. From a field of sixty-four teams all across the country, the field was reduced to sixteen for the single elimination knockout stage, trimmed down to last eight in the quarterfinals, final four in the semifinals, and eventually the best two teams went head-on in the championship game. Ending up second to powerhouse AMA University Juniors was not bad, considering the latter had two members of the Philippine Youth team in its roster. The CKSC Blazing Dragons were mentored by their assistant coach, Kevin Chester Sy.
