The month of July is National Disaster Consciousness Month. Likewise, Department of Education proclamation no. 115-A declares July as School Safety Month. As such, Chiang Kai Shek College kicked off this school year’s school safety and disaster preparedness campaign with the school's fire drill.
Two fire drills were consecutively conducted last July 26, 2013, 8:30AM at the Padre Algue Campus and 10:00AM at the Narra Campus. The drills were observed by Manila's fire drill inspector, Major Bonifacio C. Carta, who is also concurrent Chief Inspector of the Manila Fire District, Bureau of Fire Protection. Before the execution of the drills, the school organized a Building Emergency Evacuation Planning (BEEP) committee. The committee formed different emergency teams and assigned team leaders and members. The administrators, supervisors, teachers, office staff, maintenance personnel, security guards, and students all played key roles that contributed to the success of the fire drills. Major Carta, in his post-evaluation talk, commended CKSC for passing the standards set by their office.
After the fire drill, CKSC will continue its series of campaigns, trainings, seminars, and drills preparing its students for emergencies and disasters. The school also plans to invite the Philippine Red Cross and TxtFire Group to share its expertise on these matters.
