HS Freshman Nigel Zildjan Limsiy Won Bronze in China Primary Math Olympiad


Nigel Zildian Limsiy, high school freshman of CKSC was one of the 48 Filipino Math wizards who bagged bronze awards in the recently-concluded China Primary Math Olympiad held last August 11 and 12 at Yichang City, Hubei.

The 47 other members of the team, composed of elementary students from private and public elementary schools in the Philippines, each managed to earn third-honor recognition from what is dubbed by the Mathematics Trainers-Guild Philippines as the second hardest math tournament in the world.

According to Dr. Eduardo dela Cruz, MTG vice president: “This tournament is known to be a very tough one and we have only managed to win one gold medal since we started to send participants in 2003.”

Michael Brodeth, a student from Colegio de San Agustin in Makati City, was the only one who won second honor in the tournament.

Philippines Team of this year did not comprise of students from Chinese-Filipino schools, as had been the case in previous math Olympiads. Other schools who participated are: Philippine Science High School, Xavier School, PAREF Southridge School, De La Salle-Zobel School, St. Francis of Assisi College, St. Jude Catholic School, OB Montessori Center- Greenhills, UNO High School, etc.
