Artist, Mathematician, Scout Honor CKS College With Awards Won


CKS College grade school student Carl Daineal Sy Tiu (Gr. 6-D) won the grade 6 art competition in the "Try Prayer. It Works! 2014 Creative Contest" organized by the Family Rosary Crusade. The contest had "Being About the Work of My Father" as its theme.

Another grade school student, Trisha Danielle Sia (Gr. 5-B), won a bronze medal in the 11th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO 2014) held at Bali, Indonesia from October 5 to 11, 2014.

High school achiever Andrew Brandon L. Ong (IV-1)was chosen as one of the national winners in the search for Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines for 2014. The annual search, now on its 25th year, was jointly organized by the Department of Education and the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, with Coca-Cola Export Corporation as its sponsor. His Excellency, Vice President Jejomar C. Binay, presented the awards and prizes to the ten winners last October 17 at the Philippine International Convention Center. Joining VP Binay during the presentation rites were Atty. Adel Tamano of Coca-Cola and Maximino Edralin, Jr. of the BSP. Abo, as he is fondly called, is the 27th CKSCian to win the coveted TOBS award since 1994.

 

 

Samantha Maye Chua Takes 2nd Place at PETA-Lampara Storytelling Competition


 

Chiang Kai Shek College third-grader, Samantha Maye Chua (3-B) won 2nd place in PETA-Lampara Storytelling compettition last Sept. 21, 2014.

The competition was held at SMX convention Hall. She received P12,000 cash prize, a medal, and gift certificate. Miss Jocelyn P. Calugay and Ms. Ailene F. de Leon honed Samantha's skills all through out this competition.

More achievers from CKS College!

Harold Alexis Ang Lao of CKS high school batch 2009, placed 2nd in the Electronics Engineer Licensure Examination held last September 2014 by the Professional Regulation Commission. Harold also graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering from the University of Santo Tomas, Magna cum laude.

The CKS College Scout Basketball Team won the championship crown in the 2014 APSSAM-MAPESA Basketball Tournament which had 19 private schools in Manila competing. The Blazing Dragons emerged champions with a clean slate from the elimination round to the championship game, defeating the host Philippine Cultural College during the championship game at the PCC gym, 62-60. The team was mentored by Herbert Cuenca and Chester Kevin Sy.

In another competition, the CKS College Aqua Dragons Swim Team joined the Inter-School Invitational Swim Meet organized by St. Stephen's High School last October 4, 2014. Mishka C. Sy (3-C) was chosen as "Most Outstanding Swimmer" in the 9 years old - Female Category, winning four gold medals in the 50 meter Butterfly, 50 meter Back Stroke, 50 meter Breast Stroke, and 50 meter Freestyle events. Her teammate, JBmond Emmanuel Lim (3-G) took the silver medal in the 50 meter Butterfly for his age group.

Last October 9, Andrew Brandon Ong and Jack Calvin Chua emerged as topnotchers in the 2014 search for Ten Outstanding Scouts of Manila (TOSM), senior scout and boy scout categories, respectively. Ong and Chua led the 12 winners chosen from various public and private schools in Manila. The awards were presented during the recognition ceremony held at the auditorium of Santa Cruz Parish Church with Ambassador Harry C. Angping, chairman emeritus, and Dr. Zenaida Pontinoza, chairman of Manila Council, Boy Scouts of the Philippines presiding.

Also victorious was the CKS Blue Dragons high school basketball team who bagged the crown in the inaugural Pilipinas Chinese Amateur Basketball League, defeating the Ateneo de Manila high school team in the championship game held on October 12 at Enderun College. In another tournament, the CKS Lady Dragons high school girls' basketball team emerged first runner-up in the juniors' basketball competition of the 2014 Women's National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA).

CKS Wins in Different Fronts


CKS College continues to shine brightly in different competitions!

High school students Andrew Brandon Ong, Clyde Wesley Ang, and Jan Kendrick Ong combined their wits and knowledge to catapult CKS College to 2nd Place in the team competition of the 24th GMathic Competition organized by Grace Christian College in Quezon City last September 18, 2014. Andrew Brandon Ong also emerged champion in the individual category, while Clyde Wesley Ang was 3rd Placer. Their trainer was Mrs. Armi Mogro.

CKS grade school students also swept the top three prizes in the Chinese Storytelling Contest organized by the Manila Downtown YMCA Club last September 13, 2014. Trained by Ms. Ching Yap Le Song, the winning CKSians were: 1st Place - Kathereen Kence W. Sy Suan (4-A), 2nd Place - Derrick Austin O. Co (3-D), and 3rd Place - Chloe Yamille B. Velasco (4-B).

Last but not the least, the CKS high school basketball team defended their NCR title in the 2014 Milo Passerelle Basketball Tournament last September 15, 2014 against San Beda College. Onwards they go to Cebu for the national leg competition. The basketball teams also swept both divisions of the basketball tournaments organized by the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation (FCAAF), which had the championship games last September 20. The high school team walloped Hope Christian High School, 89-64, to win their division while the elementary team nipped St. Jude Catholic School, 36-34, to win the developmental competition. It is the third straight year that both teams emerged champions in the annual competition.

Trisha Sia Wins Gold in Singapore International Math Competition


After its recent victory in several international math tilts, the Philippines pulled another feat by placing second overall at the recent 2014 International Mathematics Contest (IMC) in Singapore.The Philippine team, which brought home a total of 155 medals, arrived in Manila on Monday night, August 4.
Dr Simon Chua, president of the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG), said the Philippine medal haul consisted of 22 gold, 44 silver, and 89 bronze medals, putting it behind China, which topped the competition with 193 medals.
Malaysia was third with a total of 92 medals, followed by Indonesia with 75, host country Singapore with 67, South Korea with 59, Thailand with 30, Iran with 8, Myanmar with 3, and India with 1. The Filipino students competed against over a thousand contestants.

Contributing to the medal haul were three CKSC students. Trisha Danielle K. Sia won a gold medal, while fellow CKSians Jhervey Edric Cheng and Geosef Viktor Uy both bagged silver medals.

CKSC Students Top Art Contest, Receive Scout Awards


Once again, CKS College students were recipients of various honors that showed their exemplary performance beyond academics.CKSCians swept the top plums in both elementary and high school divisions of the Children's Art Contest conducted by the Manila Downtown YMCA Club last July19, 2014. Jefferson Chua (G9-1) topped the high school level, while Jessica Mae Qiu (G7-1) took first place in the grade school level. Joining the two first placers in the winners' circle were Ryanne Valerie Ong (IV-1) who bagged 6th place in the high school level and Trisha Danielle Sia (5-B), who also won 6th place in the grade school competition. The winners received their cash prizes during the simple awarding ceremony held last August 2 at the organizer's auditorium.

Three CKS College senior scouts were bestowed the Eagle Scout Award during the National Court of Honor Ceremony held at the auditorium of the Far Eastern University, Quezon City campus last July 25. Andrew Brandon Ong (HS IV-1), Harvey Andee Co (BSBA-Management), and Angelo Villamora (HS Batch 2014) were presented the highest advancement award for boy and senior scouts by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines in the awarding ceremony presided by Quezon City Councilors Jorge Banal and Godofredo Liban, and Cabanatuan City Judge Johnmuel Mendoza, the latter being a former Eagle Scout himself. Ms. Naty Sia accompanied the scout achievers to the awarding rites.

CKS College produced two more Eagle Scouts in Brandon Willis Sing (HS Batch 2014) and John Pierce Tubay (IV-2). Sing and Tubay were awarded the highest advancement rank during another Court of Honor Ceremony organized by Manila Council, Boy Scouts of the Philippines last August 2, 2014 at the Philippine Academy of Sakya auditorium. Dr. Erlinda Abubo and Mr. Florence Antonio co-chaired the solemn recognition rites.

During the same occasion, five CKS College grade school students received the Leaping Usa Award, the highest advancement rank awarded to Kab Scouts by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP). Scouts Dixon Chua (4-F), Edenburg John Figueroa (4-D), Carll Simon Lin (4-D), Aaron Vincent Po (4-C), and Gavin Zeus Tan (4-D) were finally presented their certificates. Jelvin Ralph Sy and Danilo Supelana from the grade school discipline office joined the kids and their proud parents to the awarding rites.

Ryan Jericho Sy Wins Bronze in HK Po Leung Kuk Math Contest


Young Filipino elementary students finished first runner-up overall by winning 12 individual medals and two merit awards in 17th Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest held recently in Hong Kong.

Philippine Team C composed of John Henry Marquez of UP Integrated School, Stefan Marcus Ong, and Steven Ting Reyes of St. Jude Catholic School, and William Joshua King of Bethany Christian School copped first runner-up overall in the group contest and took home a merit award in the team contest.
