Jefferson Chua Wins 3 Major Awards in October

Jefferson Chua - a multi-faceted grade 11 student whose name is synonymous to exemplary performances in different fields such as singing and dancing, writing Chinese calligraphy, drawing and sketching, reciting declamation pieces and monologues, among many others. No wonder then that in October, he received three major awards that gave honor not only to himself, but also to his school, his family, and his community.

Last October 19, Jefferson Chua was chosen as one of the national winners in the search for Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines for 2015. The awards were presented by the Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines, Honorable Jejomar C. Binay, during the awarding rites held at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The nationwide search for the Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts (TOBS) of the Philippines was initiated in 1989 during the incumbency of former Education Secretary and Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) National President Dr. Isidro D. Cariño. The search aims to recognize scouts who best represent what the Scouting program aspires to achieve: Scouts with sterling achievements in community leadership, academic excellence, and good moral conduct.

For his feat, he received fifteen thousand peso cash prize, a two-year college scholarship grant from Coca-Cola Far East Limited, a trophy, medals, and plaques for himself, his school, and Manila Council. He is the 28th winner from CKS College in this annual search, the first being Mel Anthony Y. Cruz, now a surgeon, way back in 1994. For the competition, he was trained by Mrs. Esperanza Brown.

Jefferson also received an award as one of the Ten Outstanding Scouts of Manila (TOSM) in another recognition program held at Pedro Guevarra Elementary School in San Nicolas, Binondo, Manila last October 28. There were actually three CKSians given the said TOSM awards, the other two being Charles Stepven S. Lin and Johannes Nathan C. Hong. This awarding program was presided over by former Congressman and Ambassador Harry C. Angping, Chairman Emeritus of the Manila Council, Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

Last but not least, Jefferson C. Chua was also one of six recipients of the Model Chinese-Filipino Students Award for School Year 2015-2016 from the Philippine Kong De Association. This was awarded last October 24 at the hall of the Association of Chinese-Filipino Schools in the Philippines, Incorporated.
