Student Achievers of Summer 2015


CKS students continued their excellence even during summer break.

The Sy Suan siblings won in the 2nd season of the Picasso International Art Contest 2015 (Artworks of Star Artists). Kathereen Kence Wong Sy Suan (Gr. 5-A) emerged winner in the 6-12 year old category while her elder sister, Kimberlee Kence W. Sy Suan (Gr.8-3), won in the 10-13 year old category. The winning artworks were published in the competition website, http://picassoartcontest.weebly.com/contest-2015-season-2.html.

In another development, the CKS high school boys' and girls' basketball teams emerged as champions in the Palarong Pambansa 2015 held at Tagum, Davao del Norte last May 3 to 9. The teams represented the National Capital Region to the annual student competition.

Clyde Wesley Ang Gets Perfect Score in 4th IMAS


Grade 10 student Clyde Wesley Ang was the only perfect scorer from the Philippines in the 4th International Mathematics Assessment for Schools (IMAS), which had its awarding ceremonies last March 14, 2015 at the Ching Ban Lee Memorial Hall of Chiang Kai Shek College. For his feat, he received a gold medal and other prizes.
Clyde Wesley Ang and Ryan Jericho Sy, who competed in the junior high school and upper primary divisions respectively, were among the nine Filipino gold medalists in the 4th IMAS. Terence Brian Tsai received the silver medal for the junior high school division, while Patricia Angelica Tan got the bronze medal for the middle primary division.

 

YES Award Presented to CKS Students


CKSians received the Youth Excellence in Science (YES) Award for representing the Philippines and winning honors for the country in various international Mathematics and Science competitions this school year 2014-2015. The awarding ceremony was organized by the Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute, and it was held last February 25 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City. CKS Director for Developmental Studies Felisa Dy and Math teacher Merlie Sondia accompanied the awardees, namely Patricia Angelica Tan, Terence Brian Tsai, Jhervey Edric Cheng, Trisha Danielle Sia, Clyde Wesley Ang, Ryan Jericho Sy, Geosef VIktor Uy, Derick Pan, Pauline Audrey Ongchan, and Patrick Matthew Chan, to the event.

CKSC Scout Basketball Team Wins 10-Peat BP Cup Crown


The CKS College scout basketball team earned an unprecedented 10-Peat championship crown in the recently-concluded 12th Baden Powell Cup Basketball Tournament 2015. The Blazing Dragons swept the best-of-three championship series against Philadelphia High School, winning the first game last February 18 at the opponent's home court to the score of 69-53, and ending the series with a lopsided 79-45 victory at the CKS main campus gymnasium on February 27. The team was mentored by volunteer coaches and alumni Herbert Cuenca (HS Batch '85) and Chester Kevin Sy, CPA (HS Batch 2006).
The Blazing Dragons earned their first title in the tournament in 2006 and has never relinquished the top plum since then. Aside from the two finalists, this year's competition had six other schools competing, namely St. Stephen's High School, Tiong Se Academy, Grace Christian College, Philippine Women's University, Republic Institute, and Elyseum Christian School.
Individual awards also went to CKS College's Julius Floyd Capati, who emerged Most Valuable Player of the tournament, Mike Jericho Mojica and Jonathan Co, who both made it to the Mythical Five selection. Also in the CKS team were Miguel Ruiz Tan, Neil Patrick Sia, John Sedryck Shi, Anson Tyson Que, Julius Dominic Cua, Robert Angelo Martin, Erwin John Lee, Miguel Trencio, Dewey Ellis Chua, John Jacob Ang, Wilson Andy Ang, and Kuan Yu Chen.

CKSCians Dominate Search for Mr. and Ms. Little Chinatown 2015


CKSCians did well in the first-ever search for Little Mr. and Ms. Chinatown, which had its grand coronation night last February 19, 2015 at the SM Mall of Asia activity center. CKS grade school students took all top three places in the Little Ms. Chinatown competition, with Charlize Chua proclaimed as the grand winner. Hannelle Chua emerged 1st Runner-Up, and Rebecca Dionisio was 2nd Runner-Up. Phoebe See was also among the top 5 in the girls' competition. The lone male entry from CKS College, Keveen Sy Suan, was adjudged 2nd Runner-Up for Little Mr. Chinatown.

CKS High School Students Reap Awards in MTAP Math Challenge


CKSC high school students scored well during the 2015 DepEd-NCR MTAP Math Challenge - Private Sectoral individual and team competitions.
The 4th year tandem of Andrew Brandon Ong and Jan Kendrick Ong won 3rd place in the team category.
Winners in the individual category were Ryan Jericho Sy (Grade 7 - 7th Place, Jhervey Edric Cheng (Grade 7 - 10th Place), Patrick Matthew Chan (4th Year - 6th Place), and Andrew Brandon Ong (4th Year - 9th Place).

Andrew Brandon Ong Wins the Ah-Shin Outstanding Student Award


Congratulations to CKS high school student Andrew Brandon Ong for having been awarded as one of the twelve "Outstanding Chinese-Filipino Students" for School Year 2014-2015 by the Chan Kingciong Ah-Shin Educational Foundation during ceremonies held last February 14 at the Fortune Hotel in Binondo, Manila.
