Patrick Chan Wins Silver Medal in Taiwan' WMIC


Filipino math wizards bagged 80 medals and awards in a math competition in the 2014 World Mathematics Invitational in Taipei, Taiwan recently. Among the achievers was CKS College’s Patrick Matthew Chan (IV-1) who brought home a silver medal. He competed against entries from the United States, China, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Nigeria, and host Taiwan.

Clyde Wesley Ang Bags Korea Math Tilt Gold Medal


Filipino students brought home 39 awards, including two gold medals, from an international mathematics competition in South Korea last week.

According to Mathematics Trainers' Guild—Philippines, delegates to the 2014 Korea International Mathematics Competition (KIMC) in Daejeon, South Korea bagged two gold, four silver, and eight bronze medals, and 12 merit awards, as well as the champion, one first runner-up, and nine second runner-up trophies at the math meet.

According to the guild, the following brought home medals and trophies:

Gold

  • Albert John Patupat, Holy Rosary College
  • Clyde Wesley Ang, Chiang Kai Shek College

In the high school competition, RP Team B composed of Clyde Wesley Ang, Jaba, Lim Tiong Soon, and Patupat was the champion in the group contest and second runner-up in the team contest.


The Philippine delegation was among 576 elementary and high school students from 31 countries who joined the competition.

CKS College Scouts Join Christmas Camps


Christmas breaks can either be totally fun or completely boring. But for CKS College scouts, it has never been boring because of Christmas Camps! This year, the boy scouts joined the 90th Anniversary and Annual Christmas Camp of Manila Council, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, held in I&E Team Building Facility, El Sitio Filipino, Dumuclay East, Batangas City. On the other hand,  the girl scouts had their own camp entitled “A B.U.G.S. Camp” (Building Up Girl Scouts) held in Lola Corazon Leisure Farm, Candaba, Pampanga.

Business Correspondence Seminar


To help the junior and seniors who were preparing for their internships or job applications,  the Senior Organization, in partnership with the Junior Organization, organized and held a seminar entitled, “Business Correspondence: Resume Writing,” last January 20, 2014 at the 7th floor of the CKS College Narra campus. The goal of this seminar was to help students write a job-winning resume.

The speaker was Mr. Nikko Norman Izar. Mr. Izar graduated magna cum laude from the University of the East – Manila. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Communication and is currently pursuing his Master of Arts degree in Communication Research at the University of the Philippines – Diliman. He used to be a segment producer and writer for companies, such as: the Fil-Chi Productions Inc, Philippines Tafler, Lifestyle Asia, and Rubycomm. Austria. At present, he is an associate brand manager of Diamond Laboratories Inc.

Mr. Izar shared tips on how to make a killer resume. He also discussed the do’s and don’ts of resume writing. He emphasized that a killer resume is one that is skill-based, organized, and compact. He also gave some tips on how one should prepare for a job interview.

The FRIENDS Peer Counselors’ Organization invited two inspirational speakers, Mr. Marlon Molmisa and Mr. Vinci Glodove, to motivate FBAS CKSCians. The seminar, entitled “Identity: Knowing Who You Are,” was held last November 21, 2013, at the 7th floor of the CKSC Narra Campus. Entrepreneurial Breakthroughs with Mr. Henry Lim Bon Liong


Chiang Kai Shek College – Faculty of Business, Arts and Sciences, in cooperation with the Junior Marketing Association (JMA), hosted a seminar entitled “Entrepreneurial Breakthroughs” last January 17, 2014. More than 150 business students gathered to learn from the speaker, Mr. Henry Lim Bon Liong—one of the leading Filipino-Chinese business tycoons in the country. Also gracing the said seminar was CKSC president, Dr. Dory Poa.

Notable for his efforts to transform the rice industry through hybridization, Mr. Lim is also the CEO of the Sterling Group of Companies. Speaking from experience, he shared insights on how entrepreneurs are vastly different from managers, and how vision and perseverance can make a difference in business. He also emphasized that to dominate the market and become the industry's leader, it is important for an entrepreneur to be willing to take risks and strive to be better than competitors.

Kinder Quiz Bee Held


The first-ever Kinder Quiz Bee, which was held last November 22, proved that preschool pupils are small yet terrible. Their answers to questions during the competition showed that they learned a lot  from school.  As part of their learning process, they discovered, developed, and honed skills that will be helpful later in life.

The Kinder Quiz Bee had two sessions – one in the morning  and another in the afternoon. The brightest kids converged at the Ching Ban Lee Memorial hall and attempted to outscore one another. Topics dealt with Science,Mathematics, and General Information.

 The winners in Group A were Denzel S. So (1st Place), Simon Jaxith T. Martinez (2nd Place), Raissa Ysabelle T. Chua (3rd Place), Sasha Athena O. See (4th Place), Aizen G. Po (5th Place), and Airabelle T. Ching (6th Place). Group B winners were Andrew C. Lim Un (1st Place), Chelsea Raine C. Chua Chiaco (2nd Place), Josiah Cody Y. Ang (3rd Place), Cedric Benjamin R. Ong (4th Place), Raphael Jobonavent Herrera (5th Place), Beau Kesler O. See (6th Place), and Joshua Ivan F. Cabansag (7th Place).
