Wong, Sy Make CKSC Grade School Proud


Two more CKSC grade school students brought honor to their Alma Mater.

Last September 14, 2013, grade six student Timothy Bryan Wong won 2nd Place in the individual category of the annual competition conducted by Ateneo Mathematics Society dubbed “Sipnayan 15”, with the theme "Go The Distance". He received a silver medal and a certificate.

Grade five student Ryan Jericho Sy was also invited by the Mathematics Development Academy of the Philippines to represent the Philippines in the Malaysia National Mathematical Olympiad Competition 2013 Invitational Event in Kedah, Malaysia last September 13-15, 2013. He won a bronze medal in the event, competing against contestants who are mostly grade six students from China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Ryan Sy was among eight students representing the Philippines to this event. Last August, he also won a gold medal win in the 9th International Mathematics Competition (IMC) held in Singapore.

 

Another Harvest of Winners for CKSC


CKSC students continue bringing honor to their Alma Mater!

Math prodigy Clyde Wesley Ang notched a perfect score in the 2013 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), earning for himself the Peter O'Halloran certificate, an award given in honor of the AMC founder Peter O'Halloran.  Only five students from the Philippines achieved this enormously difficult feat.

Grade six student Timothy Bryan Wong was declared  Champion in the Whiz Kids ’13, conducted last September 18 by the National Teachers College in line with their 85th Founding Anniversary celebration. Nineteen public and private schools in Metro Manila joined the competition. A qualifying round was held in the morning and Timothy Wong got the highest score among the competitors. Ten qualifiers battled during the Final Round held in the afternoon. Timothy Bryan Wong emerged as Champion, winning a cash prize of five thousand pesos and medallion. A trophy was also awarded to the school and a cash prize of one thousand five hundred pesos was given to the coach.

FBAS Tourguiding and a Taste of Nature


Last September 14-15, the CKSC-FBAS TOUR001 (Principles of Tourism 1 and Tour Guiding) class, under the guidance of their instructor, Mrs. Jacqueline Rabe-Monson, went to Buri Resort and Spa in Puerto Galera. Eighteen students took a four-hour trip via private boat to the resort and got immersed in the actual practice of tourguiding. (Read more at http://fbas.cksc.edu.ph/news/316-a-taste-of-nature)

CKSC Volunteers for Good Cause


Chiang Kai Shek College is an institution of academic excellence. It believes in instilling values that are essential not only for academic and professional excellence, but also in molding its students to become good citizens of the country. As such, the school exposes it students to various community involvement and outreach projects within or outside the school premises.

One such event was the tree planting activity organized by the Metro Manila Development Authority last September 15 at the former San Mateo Landfill in Barangay Pintong Bukawe, San Mateo, Rizal. The said activity was led by its implementing arm, the Metropolitan Manila Emergency Volunteer Corps, with the goal of planting 100,000 trees by year-end. It also aimed at promoting social relevance and environmental awareness and fostering cooperative spirit and camaraderie among government personnel, volunteers, and other stakeholders. More than 1,000 MMDA personnel and members of volunteer-partner organizations joined the worthwhile event, including 10 high school scouts from Chiang Kai Shek College.

FBAS Seminar: Anatomy of Success


In the 2nd part of this year’s Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES) series, the CKSC-FBAS Student Executive Council (SEC) and the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) joined hands to hold the seminar, entitled, “The Anatomy of Success” last September 11, 2013 at the CKSC main auditorium.  Top-notch, dynamic,  and renowned motivational speaker, Mr. Francis Kong, address a crowd comprised mainly of FBAS faculty members, administrators, and students. FBAS Hands-On Seminar on Adobe Photoshop


On September 12, 2013, the Computer Society held a hands-on seminar about Photoshop-- a photo-editing software --at CKSC-FBAS’ computer laboratory at Room 502. Both COMSOC members and non-members joined the seminar.

The speakers of the seminar were Krystelynn Ann Go and Ivan Bartolome, both graduates of Fine Arts & Design from the University of Sto. Tomas. They taught the basics of editing like cloning, logo making, and pimple/wrinkle removal. COMSOC officers guided attendees through more challenging portions of the workshop.

In closing, Mr. Bartolome reiterated that in order to widen one’s knowledge of Photoshop, there is a need to continually explore the various features of the program. He also emphasized that this knowledge shall be a tremendous advantage when one enters the workplace.

4 Champions in 2 Days


CKSC produced four Champions in two days.

Last September 14, Chiang Kai Shek College dominated competitions during the 2013 ChEleidoscope: A View To The Chemical Engineering World hosted by the Adamson University Chemical Engineering Students Society (AduCHESS).
